The “Urrezko Txapelak” (Golden Txapelas) awarded by Zinemaldia.CAT were presented last Sunday night and went to Handia, Converso, and Bi Txirula.  Handia, by Jon Garaño and Aitor Arregi was awarded Best Fiction Film.  The film “is a magical and emotional exaltation of difference and what it means to be different,” according to the Zinemaldia.CAT the annual showcase of Basque film production in the Catalan capital organized by the Barcelona Euskal Etxea. 

Barcelona, Catalonia.   In the documentary category, the Golden Txapela went to Converso by David Arratibel, “for his use of cinematic language and reflecting the story of swimming upstream: the characters becoming believers in historic moment like the present, in which precisely the opposite happens.”

Finally, the third “Urrezko Txapela” went to Bi Txirula by Iñigo Garcia Agirrezabalaga, for Best Film in Euskera,  awarded by the Azkue Foundation.  The jury stressed in this case, “the humility of this case,” the scripts that made up the film “the cinematic style of creating and bringing up questions.” “Questions like who they are, where they are from, and where they are going that move us to reflection and send a positive message, a message that proclaims that a better world is possible.”

The jury of the 2018 edition was comprised of Blai Morell (journalist), Barbara Destefanis (BCN Sports Film Festival), Lluis Marques (actor), Bruna Cusi (actress) and Joan Gonzales (DocsBarcelona).

The “Urrezko Txapelak” were awarded on Sunday evening in the final Official Section of Zinemaldia.Cat, in the Girona Theaters in Barcelona.
