Besides a replica of Picasso's Guernica painted by one of the club members, the Basque Plaza will also have a monument with lauburus and a silhouette of the Basque Country so that anyone visiting the green space located on Constituyentes and Costa Ricas Avenue  will encounter some of the most significant symbols of the Basque culture.  The inauguration of the space will take place on July 8th, when the Hiru Erreka Basque Club will also celebrate San Fermin and Argentina’s Independence Day.

Tres Arroyos, Argentina.   Euskal Enparantza, the Basque Park and Plaza Project in Tres Arroyos is a initiative that has moved firmly and little by little.  A decade ago the Euskal Etxea took over the maintenance and care of the space and currently, besides organized activities for the community, the Hiru Erreka Basque Club has been in charge of the forestation of the space.

In 2017, local authorities of Basque institutions gathered with representatives of the city to complete the last phase of the Plaza.  Since March, improvements have taken place, like adding lighting, the construction of paths, many of those with pieces of red, white and green mosaics donated by members of the euskal etxea, raising a flag pole so the Ikurriña and the national flag can fly along with the provincial and local flags.  In April, as part of the 80th anniversary of the Bombing of Guernica, a mural, a replica of Guernica, was also painted by club members.

The city and the Basque club are now working on the last piece to adorn the plaza, a monument that represents a map of Euskal Herria with a Lauburu in its interior.  This is the work of Horacio Jaureguibehere, Francisco Urbieta and Alejandro Cordi, all members of the club.

The inauguration of the Basque Plaza in Tres Arroyos will take place on July 8th at 11:30am.

But this isn’t the only activity on that day for Hiru Erreka.  On the same Saturday, the club will host a dinner to celebrate San Fermin and Argentina’s Independence.  The event will take place at the clubhouse and will include dance performances and videos, as well as a talk about Euskera by club teacher, Alfredo Laborde.
