The celebration took place at the Independence Plaza in the Argentine city of Tandil, where the Danborrada, dances and typical costumes told the neighbors that the Basques were celebrating.  After the show, the dance continued at the Basque club.  The anniversary activities will continue this week with a talk, a photo exhibit, a pelota tournament, among other activities.

Tandil, Argentina.  Following the style of the last few years, the 2014 birthday celebration of the Gure Etxea Basque club in Tandil once again looked like "The old days dances" or “The Basque dances of before.”  So, after gathering all the guests at the Basque club door, the parade led by Giants and Big Heads, moved through the streets in a kalejira to the rhythm of drums, all the way to the Independence Plaza.

At the roundabout, and after an address by the club’s president, Esteban Kain, and a local city representative, an Aurresku was then followed by a recital by the Gure Abestiak choir that also included a dance performance by dance groups from Lagunen Etxea in Laprida: Anaitasuna from Maipu; Denak Bat from Mar del Plata; Euzko Etxea from Necochea; Ekin Dantzari Taldea from Buenos Aires and the hosting club’s dance group.  The performance also surpassed the stage with dancers dancing around the roundabout.  The festivities continued into the night with a dance at the Basque club.

The 65th Anniversary program continues next weekend.  On Saturday, the 29th at 18:00, a photo exhibit will be inaugurated covering the first 65 years of the institution. Afterwards, Mikel Ezkerro will give a talk at 19:00 on “The Mysterious Basque People,” and at 21:30 the anniversary dinner will take place, with a performance by the local Gure Abestiak choir and the Ixilik group from Buenos Aires.

In December, specifically on the 12th at 20:00, the club invites everyone to the Live Nativity Scene in the Carretas Plaza in front of the club; from Monday the 15th to Friday at 19th, the “Isidro Legarreta” paleta tournament will take place at the club’s fronton.
