The 2018 Laburbira program of short films in Basque will come to Basque clubs in London, Paris and Valencia

Today, the 15th edition of Laburbira will begin in Bergara, Gipuzkoa.  This year’s program that screens short films in Euskera will ariive to 29 locations including three in the Diaspora: London (oganized together with to the London Basque Society Euskal Elkartea), Paris (Pariseko Euskal Etxea) and Valencia (Laurak Bat Basque Club).  Eight shorts will be shown in their original Basque version in the case of Diaspora with subtitles according to the euskal etxea, in English, French, and Catalan respectively.  

Donostia-San Sebastian. The eight titles that will be shown beginning today as part of Laburbira correspond to works mainly done by Basque youth in 2017, with the exception of Zulo. The selection was completed last December by the Euskaltzaleen Topagunea based on the works presented by the authors themselves, in function of the predetermined criteria.  Today the first screening will take place in Bergara, Gipuzkoa and on March 27th that last one will be in Arrasate, also in Gipuzkoa, even if the Laurak Bat Basque Club in Valencia will hold its event on April 8th.

The traveling film ciruciit organized every year by Euskaltzaleen Topagunea has two main goals: to spread the quality work by Basque creators so that they may advance their careers; and to provide film lovers with an opportunity to see new works by young producers in Basque (titles usually correspond to the current year, or the one before in some cases.)

Besides screenings in London, Paris and Valencia, the other 26 locales that are part of Laburbira 2018 include: Bergara, Ordizia, Azpeitia, Lazkao, Sestao, Ermua, Etxebarri, Usurbil, Sondika, Getaria, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Larraintzar-Ultzama, Irun, Soraluze, Zumaia, Hondarribia, Areatza, Arespalditza, Oñati, Azkoitia, Basauri, Hernani, Biasteri, Igorre, Mutriku and Arrasate.
