Next weekend, taking advantage of the Monday holiday (in Argentina), the XIX Festival of Communities will take place in San Pedro. In the same spirit as prior editions, the hundreds of locals and tourists can enjoy the various cultural exhibits over the three days. Once again the Basque club will represent the Basque community which will also include a performance by a group of dantzaris on the festival’s main stage, as well as screenings of short films in the cultural activities tent. During the three days people will also be able to enjoy typical dishes at “Ongi Etorri’s” stand.

San Pedro, Argentina.  The XIX edition of the Festival of Communities will take place in the city of San Pedro, in the province of Buenos Aires, from October 8th-the 10th.  The 3rd Exposition of handicrafts, business and industry for this town located on the banks of the Parana River, will also take place during the festival.

Organized by the Department of Culture of the Municipality and the Commission of Communities under the auspices of the Cultural Institute of the Province of Buenos Aires, the festival will unite for the nineteenth time representatives from varied communities including: Arab, Paraguayan, Russian, German, Moroccan, and Basque to name a few that will share the most characteristic part of their homelands with the audience.  Visitors will have an active role since they can also participate in the marathon that is developed as part of the festival as well as in voting for the Queen of the Communities.

The festival, that will span three days, will be the scene where groups will tell about their homelands through dances, music, sports, languages and typical costumes.  Ekin Dantzari Taldea of Buenos Aires City, invited by the “Ongi Etorri” club, will provide an overview of the dances of the Basque Country.  Their performance will take place on Sunday October 9th at 20:55.  In addition, there will be a screening of film shorts from the Kimuak collection in the cultural activities tent.  These can be seen on Saturday at 17:30 and on Sunday at 18:00.

The most typical flavors of the Basque Country will also be present this weekend.  Members of “Ongi Etorri” will prepare wonderful dishes for everyone who visits their stand to enjoy.  The XIX edition of the Festival of Communities will open its doors on Saturday at 11am, at the public promenade San Pedro, and is free of charge.
