Donostia-San Sebastián. The Basque-Argentine educator, who will spend less than 48 hours in Donostia on a short visit, will give a talk at the Hotel Heredad de Unanue about being a Basque in the Diaspora. She is an innovative teacher integrally involved with her students, socially committed, and an active collaborator in various social initiatives including being committed to local politics as an elected council member in her hometown. She has also served for eight years as the president of the Loretako Euskaldunak Basque Club in Las Flores in the province of Buenos Aires.

Graciana Goicoechandia (Las Flores, Argentina, 1967) is well known for her long career as an educator, and the former director of the Dante Alighieri High School in Las Flores, chosen in 2015 among the 50 best educators in the world, with an ample resume in this area. She adds to this a very interesting life of solidarity and commitment to the environment in the most varied facets which include, besides being a teacher, social, political and Basque.  In her talks, presentations and participation in numerous places in the world Dubai, Colombia, Panama, US ... and now Euskal Herria, it is not surprising that she presents herself as Argentine and Basque, a cultural heritage that she has transmitted to her daughter Leire who is 8 years old.

Taking advantage of her participation in the Ibero-American Conference of Educators that took place last weekend in Algeciras, Spain, Graciana was kind enough to accept the invitation by EuskalKultura.com to come to the Hotel Heredad de Unanue in Donostia to give her personal testimony on the various parts of her life, including being a member of the Basque Diaspora.  She arrived early on Sunday in order to visit the Durangoko Azoka, and later to visit the Goikoetxaundia farmhouse in Lizartza.

Her talk is just the beginning of the cultural activities that the Hotel Heredad de Unanue has planned for the coming year, with special emphasis on introducing and providing news of the reality of Basques in the Diaspora and their contribution, cultural dynamic and vitality that enriches and adds to the common Basque stock.

Talk: “Argentine Fruit of Basque Roots,” by Graciana Goicoechandia
Day: Monday, December 10th
Time: 7:30pm
Place: Hotel Heredad de Unanue (Errotazar Bidea, 142, 20018 Donostia), free admission
