Members of the Union Vasca Basque club, but also from the community in general, accompanied the dantzaris from Beti Aurrera in their presentation of the show at the Municipal Theater.  “Gu, Nosotros,” (Gu, Us) tells the story of Josune and her two countries, her native Basque Country and Argentina her new home, through dance and music.

Bahia Blanca, Argentina.   On November 18 the group Beti Aurrera from the Union Vasca Basque club in Bahia Blanca presented the show at the Municipal Theater.  The event was very successful.  Organizers esteem that, “it was even much better than we expected in terms of localities,”  “it was obvious its publication on the radio and local TV, because besides Basque club families, there was a large public from the city at large.”

The show tells the true story of Josune, a child who came from the Basque Country to Argentina as a child leaving the war, the misery and the Franco dictatorship, but also her family and traditions behind. Thanks to her brother, she started a new life in the country that would adopt her.  “That is why we combine the dance and music of the two countries.  Something that the people really enjoyed was the inclusion of the Folkore Vivo group that towards the end we did a chacarrera with the participation of members of the peña, the boys from Beti Aurrera as well as the parents and uncles of the txikis and intermediates,” Romina Larrañaga one of the show’s directors said.

“We are very happy, my colleagues as I am, because we worked together a lot and this was obvious in the preparation as well as the performance,” the dantzari added.  “We want to take advantage of this opportunity to thank everyone who supported us, especially Nuria Villalta, who let us use her idea from the documentary; and all of the members of Beti Aurrera, the former dancers, the families, and the board and everyone who supports us each time we start a new project.”

Looking towards the future, and with no time to rest, the dantzaris are already working on the Regional Txikis and Intermediates get-together.  “Because of the distance it isn’t easy for some of the clubs to participate in the event in Llavallol and so some years ago we decided to hold the txikis event in clubs in their area,” Larrañaga explained.  The next event will be held on November 28 at the Union Vasca.
