Montevideo, Uruguay.  On December 4th a large group of Basque students and teachers celebrated the International Day of the Basque Language with a party that took place at the Euskaro Basque club in Montevideo.  Nearly 30 students from Montevideo and San Jose gathered there.  Enrique Poittevin, FIVU president (federation of Basque organizations in Uruguay) also attended the event.

The day was to celebrate Euskera Day and pay tribute to the students and professors who work hard every day to maintain and spread this language in Uruguay.  In addition, the organizers also took advantage of the occasion to practice and have fun in Basque with games, raffles and music.

Teacher Andrea Bella, who learned Basque in Uruguay and is part of the Euskara Munduan program published a photo chronicle of the day on her blog “Uruguaiko azken berriak.” Her blog is in Basque, and focuses on the Basque activities in Uruguay.  You can see many more stories and images there.  We invite you to visit her blog and if possible to leave a message to encourage Andrea to continue her work in favor of Euskera.
