The Juan de Garay Foundation will head the Basque presence at the 2017 International Book Fair in Buenos Aires.  A member of the entity will also participate in the Professional Training Conference that the Fair also organizes and which begins today.  The stand will open on Thursday, April 27th and will stay open through May 15th, number 1900 in the Yellow Pavilion. There will be an event attended by Basque authorities on May 2nd at 6:30pm in Domingo Sarmiento Hall. 

Buenos Aires, Argentina.  The International Book Fair in Buenos Aires is annually one of the most important cultural events in South America and so the relevance of maintaining the presence of the Basque community at this mega exhibition.  The Basque-Argentine Juan de Garay Foundation will be one more year in charge of fulfilling this commitment and this edition will also expand the scope of its participation.

Conference

The Fair also includes various activities oriented to different sectors and cultural areas.  Today and tomorrow, the Foundation will participate in the Professional Training Conference dedicated to the publishing industry.  In a conversation with EuskalKultura.com, Jorge Beramendi said that Javier Beramendi, who is in charge of the entity’s publication, would attend on their behalf.  “The idea is to get up to speed on updates that exist in the area in order to apply them to our publications that we do annually including books and magazines,” he explained.

Stand and event

The Basque stand can be visited every day beginning this Thursday, April 27th through May 15th from 2pm-10pm M-F and 1pm-10pm on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.  There they will provide books either published or brought to Argentina by the Foundation, on a wide array of Basque topics, or in Basque.  The stand is number 1900 in the Yellow Pavilion.

There will also be a formal presentation of the Foundation books published between May 2016 and April 2017 that includes Diccionario euskera castellano – castellano euskera, by Carlos Irisarri; the Anuario 2016 de Los Vascos en Argentina; magazines Los Vascos; and the book Quo Vadis, by Carlos Heguy. “About the Anuario, (Encyclopedia), we want everyone to know that it now includes 130 new families, with their histories and data.”  The compilation of this new material was done by Beramendi himself.

The presentation of the works will take place on May 2nd at 6pm in the Domingo Faustino Sarmiento Hall and will also be attended by members and authorities of the institution, including secretary Mauricio Goyenechea and vice-president, Diego Ibarbia.  Sara Pagola, Basque Government delegate will also attend. 

The Buenos Aires Book Fair takes place at the Palermo Fair Grounds, Avenida Sarmiento 2704.
