Montclair, CA, USA. The city of Montclair, California now has a new mayor, Basque-American Javier 'John' Dutrey, after being sworn in, after his election win in the fall.  To date, Dutrey has served as a council member in this city of 40,000 inhabitants in the greater Los Angeles area.  Descendant of Navarrese from both sides of the Pyrenees, Javier is the son of Jean Dutrey, from Mendibe Behe-Nafarroa and Maria Teresa or Maritxu (Iribarren) Dutrey from Arizkun, who immigrated to California in 1964.

Javier “John” Dutrey who uses both names indistinctly but his interlocutors usually choose one over the other, is a member of the Chino Basque Club and is well-known and appreciated in the Basque community in the region.  He has traveled and spent vacation time in the Basque Country.  His election last October and subsequent assumption of the office were welcomed with much joy from the Southern-Californian Basque community.

Congratulations to him, as well as the town that he now represents, as well as his parents, family and friends, Zorionak!
