The fifth edition of the festival “Buenos Aires Celebrates the Basque Country” took place yesterday on the Avenida de Mayo, and according to information gathered by organizers, the number of attendees reached nearly 20 thousand at peak hours.  From noon until 6pm, Buenos Aires enjoyed a huge exhibition of the Basque culture with exhibition of dance, music, food, sports, Euskera, typical dress, as well as the work of many Basque clubs and institutions that participated in the mega-festival.

Buenos Aires, Argentina.   Proposed by the city’s General Directorate of Communities, and organized by Laurak Bat Club in Buenos Aires, “Buenos Aires Celebrates the Basque Country” took place yesterday on the Avenida de Mayo.  As in prior editions, the festival was highly successful and invited neighbors, tourists and authorities, along with the media, who broadcast the activities from noon on.

In speaking to EuskalKultura.com, club president, Arantxa Anitua, was very happy about how everything went and was very satisfied with the day.  “We are very happy about how everything went.  A lot of people participated and the press is estimating attendance in nearly 20,000 people". The peak hour was around 3pm.  The stands were very busy and we were able to open and show the city our culture.  In short, we have fulfilled all the goals that we set out in organizing the event,” she said.

With the weather cooperating all day, locals and those representing a large number of Basque clubs lived the afternoon to the fullest, enjoying the culture of Euskal Herria and above all the tribute paid every year to the land of their ancestors by the Basque Diaspora in Argentina.

Tomorrow, EuskalKultura.com will publish a “Buenos Aires Celebrates 2016” photo gallery.  Today, we are sharing some of the afternoon’s more eloquent moments.
