Lima, Peru.  The second International Course on Saxophone is currently being offered at the National Conservatory in Lima Peru by Josetxo Silguero native of Irun.  Silguero is teaching the course along with Argentinean saxophone player Emiliano Barri.  This is the second time that Silguero has participated in this event since he also taught in the first edition in August of last year.  He was in Peru in August as part of a Latin American tour that also took him to Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela.

The course is open not only to saxophonists but also to other musicians.  The course consists of 70 hours of class, which alternate between theory classes, workshops, and performances.  More information is available on Facebook.

Laboa and Erkoreka in Lima

On January 29th Silguero opened the course with a concert entitled, “Written Improvisation vs. Improvised Composition.”  During the recital Silguero performed “Duduk I” by Gabriel Erkoreka as well as other works by Mikel Laboa, along with works by Etienne Rolin and Jose Baroni.  On Thursday there will be a saxophone concert, as part of the course, performed in groups as well as individually, while the closing concert will be performed by Barri.
