The International Federation of Basque Pelota confirmed that Santiago, Chile would be the site of the VI World Pelota Cup 30m Fronton, November 19-27, 2016.  The frontons designated for the competition, in the capital of Mapocho have been the Euzko Etxea (Santiago Basque Club) and the Estadio Español in Las Condes, according to the Berriketari newsletter of the Chilean capital city.

Santiago, Chile.  Led by its president, Eduardo Barcelo, and its manager, Zita Solas, the Chilean Federation of Basque Pelota is planning the Schedule of activities for the World Championships, establishing a program that will assure a tournament that will rise to the occasion.  Also, to ensure a quality performance, the Chilean team is already training with Facundo Kennedy.

The event, which is being organized in Chile for the first time, will gather 250 pelotaris from more than 20 countries bringing together the elite in this sport.

The championships will also facilitate the preparation of the Chilean players looking towards the Absolute Worlds in Barcelona in 2018, a huge goal for players and their coaches.

During his visit to Chile, the president of the FIPV (International Federation of Basque Pelota) Xavier Cazaubon, stressed the efforts of the Chilean Federation in organizing this event, something that just a few years ago would have be practically impossible.

The message from Chile is, “Welcome pelotaris from around the world.”
