President Barkos presided the 30th edition of the Day of the Living Abroad Navarrese in Gares-Puente La Reina

The annual event is held in a different locality in Navarre and Navarrese and descendants that reside outside of the provincial community celebrated its 30th edition last Saturday.  The Day of the Living Abroad Navarrese is the fruit of collaboration between the Federation of Navarrese Homes in Spain, the Government of Navarre and the town hall of the town that is hosting the event.  The debt to and recognition of people living elsewhere was mentioned in the speeches made by the highest authorities.

Gares-Puente La Reina, Navarre.   The event began on the eve, at an event that was attended by the Minister of Citizen and Institutional Relations, Ana Ollo, and included a performance by the local Emilio Arrieta Choir.  At the same, the Federation of Navarrese Homes honored the town of Gares with a special recognition.  Afterwards, everyone attending enjoyed dinner where the former presidents of the Federation were also honored on the occasion of its 30th anniversary.

On Saturday, the day began with guided tours of the town.  At 1pm, the match was lit for the txupinazo, followed by an official reception at the plenary hall at City Hall, followed by lunch.  Throughout the day there were other festivities such as kalejiras, aurroras, laia races, zanpantzar, etc.

All speakers highlighted the deep meaning of this event as a meeting point, bridge and recognition between Navarre and its sons and daughters residing abroad in their speeches.
