As part of the activities organized in Pehuajó, province of Buenos Aires to mark the International Day of Peace, members of the Euskal Etxea Etxe Alai held two activities.  In the morning the planted an oak in front of the Arc of Peace, and in the afternoon, as part of the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Bombing of Gernika, they unveiled a reproduction of Picasso’s work in the main hall of the clubhouse. 

Pehuajo, Argentina.  The International Day of Peace is celebrated on September 21 and in the city of Pehuajo, the literary group “Y volverán a ser árboles,” is one of the organizers of the commemorative events that unite local entities like libraries, centers of instruction, government entities, banks and foreign communities. In the morning of September 21st, with the flag of peace and the Ikurriña both present, members of the Etxe Alai Basque Club planted an oak at the city’s Arc of Peace.

In the afternoon, the events moved to the clubhouse where there was a special ceremony commemorating 2017 as the year of the 80th anniversary of the Bombing of Gernika.  The event began with a short summary of what took place on April 26, 1937 and followed by showing a video that included some of the best-known images of the result of the attack, accompanied by the poetry entitled, “That Morning.”  The video can be seen here.

After the screening, club board members unveiled the reproduction of Picasso’s painting done for the club by artists in the local “Visual Clinic” workshop.  The painting that measures 2 x 0.90m will decorate the clubhouse.
