Naroa Elortegi from Gatika (Bizkaia) and Mikel Ibargoien from Urnieta (Gipuzkoa) are the winners of the “Goazen Boisera!” contest organized by the Basque GazteBizHitza site for youth.  This Saturday they will leave for Jaialdi in Boise and during their stay they will report daily on everything happening there, from the point of view of young people.  EuskalKultura.com spoke to them and they are anxious to get to know Basque-American youth.

Donostia-San Sebastian.   Naroa and Mikel will leave for Boise this Saturday, winners of the bloggers contest “Goazen Boisera!”  They will report on Jaialdi for a week on the Gazteaukera blog with daily entries.  This is the first trip to the US for both and they are anxious to get to know the Basque-American community.

Naroa already knows a little about Jaialdi because many people in her surroundings have attended prior editions.  “I hope that there are a ton of people, and a great atmosphere….but, even though my friends have told me about it, I don’t think we can even imagine what it is going to be like in reality,” she says.

During their stay in Boise the pair will report on Jaialdi from a very special point of view: that of the youth.  “We want to know how these youth experience their Basque identity.  Getting to know the importance that Basque descendants of the emigrants that went there give their Basque culture, especially the younger generation.  We want to be there to get to know it first hand,” Mikel said.

They have already started to publish their first posts on the GazteAukera blog: Countdown to Jaialdi 2015 in Boise (Basque)  and Countdown to Jaialdi 2015 in Boise (Spanish).

The “Goazen Boisera!” contest was organized by the youth information portal GazteBizHitza.
