Two dozen members and friends of the Baskos de la Confluencia Basque Club enjoyed nature together, specifically to the “Mirador de la Confluencia” (View point of the Confluencia) where they not only drank mate, but where they also flew the Ikurriña.  Encouraged by the nice experience, members of the new Basque club are already thinking about doing it again, and are also planning a cooking course, film series and txalaparta workshops for 2017.

Neuquen, Argentina.   Last Saturday, February 18th, a group of over 20 people linked to the Baskos de la Confluencia Basque Club went on an outing to share a day together, and enjoy the surroundings of the cities of Neuquen and Cipolletti.

Using the Basque tradition of hiking, members of the club toured a route that included walking through the valleys and canyons, and a steep final climb up the hill known as the “Mirador de la Confluencia.”  As Oscar Mendiberri, club president, told EuskalKultura.com, “from there we could enjoy all the beauty of the Limay River, the Neuquen River and the Negro River that comprise the famous Confluencia, thus the name of our club.  In the distance, you can see the sharp profile of the cities of Neuquen and Cipolleti, where we are from.”

“During the walk, we took time to enjoy the landscape, the geologic formations and the flora and fauna that are typical of this region.  We also took pictures and enjoy some mate and visited.  It was a wonderful experience, full of camaraderie which characterizes all of our activities,” the president said.

Fruits of these talks is an agreement on the activities that the young club will carry out this year.  The three main proposals include Basque cooking classes, a Basque film series and a workshop on txalaparta.  For the latter the club already has the instrument and a percussionist who has offered to teach.

-The activities of the Baskos de la Confluencia Basque Club are held at the Neighborhood Commission Hall, in Cumulen located on Mastropiedra 216 esq. Carlos H. Rodríguez (8300) Neuquén.  They are on Facebook: Baskos de la confluencia and their email is: baskosdelaconfluencia@gmail.com.
