“Loreak” and “Echevarriatik-Etxeberriara” were winners in the official section of Barcelona’s Zinemaldia

Sunday marked the awards ceremony of the official section of the Zinemaldia organized by the Barcelona Euskal Etxea.  The film Loreak had won two awards the Txapela D’Or (Golden Txaplea) for Best Fiction and the Best Film in Basque, while Echevarriatik-Etxeberriara won the Txapela D’or for Best Documentary.  After the contest, Zinemaldia continues with parallel activities such as a movie marathon, short films from Kimuak and a special section for children, Txo!, among others. 

Barcelona, Catalonia. The closing gala took place on Sunday night at the Girona Theaters in Barcelona of the official section of Zinemaldia 2015, organized by the Barcelona Basque club.  The awards ceremony had two main protagonists: on the one hand, Loreak that was awarded the Txaplea d’Or – Euskadi Basque Country for the Best Fiction film and the Txapela d’Or-Azkue Foundation for the Best Film in Basque.  The second was Echevarriatik-Etxeberriara that one the Txaplea d’Or – Euskadi Basque Country for the Best Documentary.

Loreak continues its successful tour that began with good reviews at Donostia’s Film Festival, and has continued with its section for festivals in London, Zurich and Tokyo being nominated in categories such as Best Picture, Best Original Sound Track and the Goya Award from the Spanish Film Academy.

The jury of the official section was comprised of Judith Colell (filmmaker and Vice President of Spain's Film Academy), Núria Vidal (film critic), Marc Martínez (actor), Aritz Lekuona (ESCAC School) and Hammundi Al - Rahmoun (director).

Zinemaldia continues

The awards ceremony marks a half-way point for Zinemaldia that continues over the coming days with various parallel sections, until February 27.  Upcoming events include: a movie marathon by director Julio Medem, a special children’s section called TXO!.  There will also be tours of theaters in Barcelona and screenings of shorts that are part of Kimuak.
