Literature, talks and music guarantees a Basque presence at the 41st Book Fair in Buenos Aires

As every year, the Juan de Garay Basque Argentinean Foundation will introduce its latest production at the International Book Fair in Buenos Aires.  Additionally, titles published in Argentina as well as the Basque Country will be available to the public until May 11 by various publishing houses.  The main events will take place on May 5 in the Hall Domingo F. Sarmiento and will include talks and concerts. 

Buenos Aires, Argentina.   The 41st edition of the International Book Fair in Buenos Aires opened its doors will run through May 11th.  As every year, the Basque culture will also be present at this mega publishing exhibition in Argentina thanks to the Juan de Garay Foundation in collaboration with the Delegation of Euskadi in Argentina and Mercosur.

Activity on May 5

Even if the Basque stand will be open to the public every day from 2pm to 10pm (M-F), and between 1pm and 10pm on Saturday and Sunday, the main event organized by the Basque institutions will take place on May 5 at 6:30pm in the Domingo Faustino Sarmiento Hall at the fairgrounds.  Led by Jorge Zorreguieta and Mauricio Goyenechea, the Basque language and culture lecturer at the University of La Plata, Daniel Oiarbide, will give a talk on Basque. The following publication s by the Foundation with be presented: Issues 56,57,58 and 59 of the magazine Los Vascos-Euskaldunak, (The Basques) Cocina Vasca  (Basque Cooking) by Jorge Bermanedi; Anuario (Yearbook) 2013 and 2014 of Basques in Argentina; Rebeldia Euska (Euska Rebellion) and El pecado de Suponer (The Sin of Presuming) by Luis Luquez Minaberrigaray; and Hunca-lo by Carlos Heguy.

The event will also include a performance by the choir from the Euzko Etxea in La Plata directed by Evangelina Bertola.

Stand 1707

The Basque stand, #1707 will be in the yellow pavilion and will include a large number of titles, authors, and publishing houses from both sides of the ocean, for consulting as well as for purchase. There is a large array of tiles and in addition to the aforementioned titles, these will also be included:

- Historical novels, and books for youth and children from the Lur Series by Toti Martinez de Lezea
- Ekin publishing books, among them, four reprints made through an agreement with the Txalaparta Publishing

- Authors members of the Foundation: Carlos Heguy's Hunca –lo, La Pampa Central, and God Created Argentina, and Memories of a Town Doctor; Luis Lúquez Minaberrigaray's The Sin of Presuming and Euska Rebellion

- Books of the Foundation Juan de Garay Basques in the Argentina; Rogelio Yrurtia, by Jorge Beramendi; Basques, by Enrique Aramburu; Graciano Mendilaharzu a Forgotten Painter, by Elsa Mendoza de Cingolani; Basque Summer University 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2013; Martín de Álzaga, by Mauricio Goyenechea and Enrique de Gandía; The Payment from the Coast to the Current San Isidro, M. Salas; Juan de Garay and his Offspring, Alejandro Moyano Aliaga; The Basque History, Jorge F. and Pedro M. Beramendi and Mikel Ezkerro; American Institute of Basque Studies, Jorge Beramendi; Basque Humor, by Carlos Garaycochea.

The 59 Issues of the Magazine Los Vascos-Euskaldunak will also be available at the stand that the Foundation has published over the last 20 years. You will also be given the opportunity to talk to the authors of the books and have copies singed with some of them coming to the stand on particular dates that are provided here:
