The Lehendakari’s trip will be in early November and will be his first official visit to Argentina. Besides participating in the Semana Vasca activities, Iñigo Urkullu will also attend the Mid-Congress meeting of Basque collectivities in Latin America that will take place during the event in Mar del Plata.
Mar del Plata, Argentina. The Denak Bat Basque Club in Mar del Plata celebrates its 75th anniversary in conjunction with the largest Basque festival in the Basque collectivity in Argentina. If this weren’t a big enough honor, the club’s board of director’s has just received word that Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu will also attend.
As club president, Asier Iriberri, told EuskalKultura.com, “in March I went to the Lehendakaritza to personally invite the Lehendakari, and now Gorka Alvarez Aranburu and Sara Pagola traveled to Mar del Plata to bring us his response confirming that he will travel here for Euskal Astea 2018.”
Urkullu’s trip in the fall will be his first official trip to Argentina since he became Lehendakari in December 2012. The tour will also allow him to attend the Mid-Congress meeting of Basque collectivities in Latin America that will take place as part of the Semana Nacional activities in planning for the upcoming World Congress of Basque Collectivities that will take place in 2019.
Semana Vasca 2018 will take place in Mar del Plata, 400 kilometers from the capital, October 29-November 4th. The main activities however, will take place on the weekend from Friday to Sunday.
