The month of July has been a whirlwind of travel and concerts for the folk band Korrontzi. They have already covered thousands of kilometers and in more than a half dozen countries. In the beginning of July they played at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington DC, and since then they have traveled to Croatia, Italy, Slovenia, and Hungry.  Day after tomorrow, they will perform at the Warwick Folk Festival in England.

Donostia-San Sebastian.   The Korrontzi folk group has spent weeks on tour through a half dozen countries that will take them to the Babel Sound Festival tomorrow in Hungary, and the day after to the Warwick Folk Festival in England.

Prior, the group took its traditional Basque music with a modern touch to Washington DC, Rovin (Croatia), Enna, Sicily, (Italy), Piran (Slovenia), and Pondera (again in Italy).

During their stay in Washington DC, at the beginning of the month, the group had the opportunity to participate in the Smithsonian’s Folklife Festival where they joined several Basque representatives from the US, as well as other guests from Euskal Herria.  The goal of the festival was to publicize the Basque culture and Korrontzi collaborated with its music.  EuskalKultura.com was also there and recorded one of their performances that you can see here.

Korrontzi is comprised of Agus Barandiaran (trikitixa and vocals), Alberto Rodriguez (guitar and mandolin), Kike Mora (bass), Iker Lopez de Bergara (alboka, whistles, caramillo, xirula, txistu, vocals...) and Ander Hurtado de Saratxo (drums and percussion).
