Tomorrow, the presentation of the latest volume of the Urazandi collection published by the Basque Government aims to acquaint readers with the history of the Basque clubs and the Basques around the world. This last volume was written by journalist, writer and TV producer, Koldo San Sebastian, who is passionate about the Basque Diaspora. The book details the tour of the exiled Basques to the American continent after the Civil War, in a story that features the figure of Lehendakari Jose Antonio Agirre.
Vitoria-Gasteiz. The Urazandi collection will be completed with this new volume where writer and Diaspora expert, Koldo San Sebastian, follows the steps of Basques exiled to America. The author tells the situation of the exiles at the end of the Civil War who fled to the American continent, a time that highlights the figure of Lehendakari Jose Antonio Agirre, as the leader of the Basque community in exile.
San Sebastian details the ups and downs of this experience, where he also talks about the Basque exiles participation in World War II, in hopes of achieving allied support against Franco: they were infantry soldiers, combat pilots, tank drivers, spies, parachutists, and guerrillas in the Philippine jungles or maquis in the French Resistance.
The book will be presented under the coordination of the Directorate for the Basque Community Abroad tomorrow at the Basque Museum in Bayonne at 18:00, the day after in Vitoria-Gasteiz (Salon de Grados at the UPV/EHU, at 19:00) and finally on Thursday in Gernika at the Elai-Alai Room at 19:00.
