Donostia-San Sebastian.   Basque writer, Kirmen Uribe visits Peru to participate in the cultural festival Hay Festival Arequipa, from December 8-11th.  Uribe is attending this event to present his latest novel Elkarrekin esnatzeko ordua, translated into Spanish as La hora de despertamos juntos (Seix Barral, 2016).

On Saturday, Uribe will talk about this work, along with writer Marina Perezagua, and cultural journalist, Laura Revuelta.  The novel, the third by this author from Ondarroa after Bilbao-New York-Bilbao (winner of the National Narrative Prize 2009) and Lo que mueve el mundo (2013 – What Moves the World), tells the story of Txomin Letamendi and his wife Karmele Urresti.  Letamendi was a jazz trumpet player from Bilbao who, after exile in Venezuela, returned to Europe to work as a spy for the allies during World War II.

Every year, Basque writers participate in one of the editions of the festival which is headquartered in Hay-On-Wye (Gales), Cartagena (Colombia), Arequipa (Peru), Querétaro (México) and Segovia (Spain) among others, thanks to an agreement between the Etxepare Basque Institute and the Hay Festival.

The book is available for purchase in Basque here, or in Spanish, here.
