Donostia-San Sebastian. The Christmas climate has also arrived to euskal etxeas who have welcomed a visit from one of the most beloved characters from the Basque Country. The Olentzero has visited clubs all over the world to leave presents and candy along with a message of peace, harmony and good wishes to txikis and not so txikis, of course only if they had behaved “reasonably well” during 2018. But Olentzero didn’t venture alone as on some of these trips he was accompanied by Mari Domingi; and on others by mythological characters, or colleagues such as Santa Cluas, or even by the Three Kings.

In every corner of the globe, Basque communities celebrate in their way.  In Barcelona, Mexico or the US, the Olentzero came to celebrate Santo Tomas, in winter; in the southern hemisphere he did so in warmer temperatures just a step away from summer vacation.

Today on EuskalKultura.com, photos and videos of some of Olentzero’s visits to clubs in America, Europe and Australia.

[Txikis in Barcelona were very happy to see the Olentzero at the Euskal Etxea]
