Julian Celaya, Director of Diaspora Relations, will join in on the 90th anniversary of Arrecifes Basque club

Julian Celaya, director of Basque Collectivities Abroad, is in Argentina on an official visit until Monday. The main purpose of his visit is to participate in the 90th anniversary celebration of the Basque club, Euskaldunak Denak Bat, in Arrecifes which he will attend with the delegate of Euskadi to the Mercosur, Elvira Cortajarena. In addition, among other activities, Celaya and Cortajarena will meet with Spanish Embassy’s minister of Employment and Security, in charge of communities and social affairs, as relayed to EuskalKultura.com by Delegation sources.

Buenos Aires, Argentina.  Julian Celaya, Director of Basque Communities Abroad of the Basque Government, will attend the 90th anniversary celebration of Euskaldunak Denak Bat Basque club in Arrecifes, along with Elvira Cortajarena, Mercosur Basque Government delegate.  The festivities, declared “of local interest,” by the city, will also be attended by FEVA president Ricardo Basterra as well as representatives of various Basque clubs, including those of Pergamino, Chacabuco, Pilar, Gral. Rodriguez, Buenos Aires, and Suipacha, among others. 

Events will begin at 19:30 with a parade throughout the city.  The route, according to the Basque club is: Lamadrid, Ricardo Gutierrez, Av. Belgrano, Av. Merlassino, Rivadavia, Ricardo Gutierrez.  Each float will represent an activity related to Basque culture and members on those will invite the public to participate: pilotaris, woodchoppers, spinners, weightlifters, stone-lifters, fishermen….  There will also be music and dancing provided by txistularis and kalejiras that will accompany the parade.

After the parade, there will be a dinner at the Euskal Etxea that sold out, and will unite approximately 350 people.  During the evening past club presidents will be honored with a video about the institution that includes some of the highlights of the last 9 decades.  There will also be a dance performance and a concert by the local Basque group Maral in Basque and Spanish.
