The work done together in regards to Euskera, and the realization that the celebration acquires its true meaning by speaking Basque 365 days a year, is emphasized in this year’s Institutional Declaration for the 2017 International Day of Euskera entitled, “Basque, common task that wants and needs us to collaborate 365 days a year.”  Here is the message.

Euskera is a reason to celebrate one day a year, and is a common task during 365 days.  We propose taking advantage of this celebration, precisely, to breathe new life into it.  To reinforce the common effort with a new emphasis because this is what Euskera needs, and also what we need, those who want to see Euskera on the lips of everyone, in the streets, in homes, and cyberspace, in the workplace, on the screen, in the papers: exciting.  And collaboration, Auzolana, shared work.

Excitement and collaboration so that our love of Basque makes these times boil, that someone has defined as liquid.

Excitement and collaboration to win, in the most coordinated way possible, a future of vitality for our language in all territories and legal fields. With mutual affability, with solidarity.  There have been and are innumerable efforts carried out by the citizenry in one or another territory to learn Basque and deepen our knowledge of it.  The number of new Basque speakers is a testament to the sustenance of the Basque language.  It is also evidenced in the number non-Basque speaking parents who have had their children learn the language.  As well as proven by those who strive use Basque regardless of their fluency...

How many examples have we seen over the last few decades: how much personal, and collective effort, by the public as well as in citizens’ initiatives?  We owe Euskera’s reality to all of these.  Now, and in the comping years, our main task is to unceasingly and vibrantly increase the use of Basque so that while increasing their knowledge, a profound positive transformation talks place in Basque linguistic habits.  We should make Basque come to our lips, and in order for that to happen, obviously, we have to act with our innovative spirit.

NEW ROADS, ALL ROADS

That is what the great Lizardi wanted in his literature, and that is what the Basque language needs.  Euskalgintza, or the set of agents that work for the Basque language needs it too.

At a glance, it is clear that many of the roads traveled have been fruitful, and collaboration is essential for our shared work to gain effectiveness.  We are living in an ideal time for the administration and the public to open new avenues of collaboration in our shared efforts so that the social majority passes from being in Euskera to acting for the Basque language, and eventually taking the step to using Basque.

We are in the ideal moment to strengthen the collaboration between the public powers in all territories, and areas of Euskera through innovation, in favor of its use.

Euskera needs everyone’s collaboration, it is essential.  Without renouncing the difference of ideas, agreeing on solutions, respecting the competencies and responsibilities of each one, with mutual loyalty, and directing all efforts in the same direction.

Acting alone it is impossible, but working together it becomes absolutely exciting.

365 EGUN

One musician can’t change the sound of the entire orchestra without direction and the help of the other musicians.  It would be difficult for one Basque speaker to change the linguistic habits, without the help fo the rest of society.

On the long road towards transforming linguistic habits, it is necessary to activate the social majority in favor of Euskera: both at the administrative and social agents’ levels in all Basque territories, as well as in organizations in all of the territories along with the groups involved in euskalgintza, as well as those in other areas.  This includes fluent Basque speakers, as well as passive Basque speakers as well as those who don’t know Basque.

Being flexible, capable of adapting to the reality of the place, and remembering the steps of the local agents, empowering everyone who participates.

Lighting the fire of Basque in both Angelu/Anglet and Andoain, Barkoxe/Barcus as in Barakaldo, in Eltziego/Elciego and Erronkari/Roncal.

The only way is through working together.  The transformation of linguistic habits will take place in the community or it won’t.  Our commitment for this Day of Euskera is to work 365 days a year so that each is Euskera day.  In faithful collaboration, because Euskera is a common task.
