Idaho Txoko Ona Basque Club's Daniel Uranga takes tropies at the Augusta Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia

We found out about this a few days ago, thanks to our colleagues at NABO's Astero weekly, who we are borrowing this article from: Daniel Uranga, son of Jennifer and Tony Uranga of Homedale, Idaho took away two trophies last Sunday from the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship held at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. The event, established in 2013, aims at growing the sport by focusing on fundamental skills. Zorionak to Daniel, his parents, sister Tea and friends and the Homedale Txoko Ona Basque Club!

Boise, ID, USA. Daniel Uranga, son of Jennifer and Tony Uranga of Homedale, took away two trophies last Sunday from the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship held at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. 

The event, established in 2013, aims at growing the sport by focusing on fundamental skills. It is held annually at the Augusta National Golf Club the Sunday before the Masters Tournament and is broadcast live by the Golf Channel. Daniel took first in the putting competition and took second overall, out of the 80 boys and girls competing in his age bracket.

Besides meeting Tom Watson who presented him his putting trophy, Daniel also had the chance to meet Lou Holtz, Adam Scott, Bubba Watson and Matt Kuchar. Troy Merritt, PGA pro from Meridian was also in attendance. More information about the event is available here.

From Durango

Daniel's roots are in the Basque city of Durango, the hometown of his great grandfather Rufino Uranga, who emigrated to the United States, has told EuskalKultura.com Tony Uranga, the golfers father. The Urangas live in Wilder, Idaho, but they are members of the Txoko Ona Basque Club in Homedale.

The family is an active participant in the social and cultural activities of the center. Daniel is a dancer at Herribatza Dantzaria dance group and his father Tony is also a dancer as well as a mus player. Both him and his two children speak a litlle Basque.
