The California Basque group Noka, comprised of the singers Catherine Petrissans, Andrea Bidart Oteiza and Begoña Echeverria, began on October 5th a tour of Basque Centers in the US. The tour kicked off at the headquarters of the Ontario Basque Club, and met with a number of people who enjoyed singing with the group a repertoire of traditional Basque songs. The following day, Noka arrived in Mountain Home, Idaho, and played at the Autumn Meeting of NABO. The group will resume the tour tomorrow, with a concert at Stanford University, and the next stop will be on Saturday at Kantari Eguna 2012 in Lincoln, California.

Ontario, EEUU. Noka´s tour of various Basque Centers in the Western US is made possible by the Cultural Program Gurea of the North American Basque Organizations (NABO). The tour began the 5th of October in Ontario, Oregon with a concert in the old train station that today has been transformed into the headquarters of the Ontario Basque Club.

The group was accompanied by the Basque guitarist Laurent Ascarain. Noka also travels with a big screen on which they project both the lyrics to their songs, in their original Basque language and translated into English, and images and explanations of some of the relevent themes. One of these explanations, for example, was the significance of the groups name: Noka is a familiar form of address in conversation, used in Basque only for speaking among women. After the concert was a relaxed dinner, in a casual environment.

The Ontario Basque Club has published on their website a complete Photo Gallery of the night and two videos of the concert, such as "Amak ezkondu ninduen".

Noka also went to Mountain Home, Idaho, where last Saturday NABO held the 2012 Autumn Meeting. At the end of the meeting, the group gave a concert for the delegates of the diverse euskal etxeak, or Basque Clubs, from allover the country who attended the convention.

The tour will begin its final leg with its third concert, which will be held at Standford University with the support of the local Program of Basque Studies. The fourth and final concert will be this Saturday within the Kantari Eguna of NABO, which will be held in Lincoln, California organized by the Basque Center Iparreko Ibarra of Rocklin.
