Eusko Ikaskuntza has organized a day of reflection and debate on the Diaspora this Friday, September 23 in Baigorri, entitled, “The Diaspora of the Future: The Relationship that we’d like to have with the Basque Diaspora.”  Participants will address and discuss the challenges faced by the Diaspora, its current reality and different proposals by groups to provide a future worthy of its brilliant past.  Space is limited although there is still time to register.

Baigorri, Behe-Nafarroa.   Eusko Ikaskuntza – the Society of Basque Studies, has organized an entire day to put the reality of the Basque Diaspora, its past, present, and future on the table as well as gather proposals and debate ideas on ways to address the Basque reality abroad that exists in Basque communities around the world. Participants will also see how best to pay tribute, beyond mere words and empty recognitions: generate proposals to tap into its potential for the mutual benefit of the Basques that are united by being Basque.

The event will begin at 10am on September 23 at the Bil Etxea in Baigorri.  President of Eusko Ikaskuntza, Iñaki Dorrondoro, along with local mayor, Jean-Michel Coscarat, will address those gathered, and will then turn the floor over to former Lehendakari, Juan Jose Ibarretxe.  Ibarretxe, since leaving office, has spent a lot of time traveling the world and giving talks in various venues, often in contact with local Basque communities or Basque clubs.

Those gathered will immediately be grouped so that participating and dynamic of debate and discussion is created.  This will last all morning until after lunch.  At 4pm there will be a synthesis session that will lead to the final session of the day at 5:30pm.

For complete information email Koro Muro Arriet, who is in charge of Eusko Ikaskuntza projects, at koro.muro@eusko-ikaskuntza.org or call: 943 31 08 55.  Space is limited, EuskalKultura.com will also participate, and was informed that others too can participate if they contact the organizers right away.
