Eusko Ikaskuntza-Iparralde and the Ezmugak Association in Irun invite Basque artists to reflect on he Diaspora and create new works inspired by this theme.  Submissions must be received by September 15, and 25 of these will be chosen for the traveling exhibit, “Art and Basque Diaspora” that will begin in 2016.  The exhibit will begin at the Basque Museum in Baiona and then will travel to various Basque localities.

Baiona, Lapurdi.  EuskalKultura.com has been in touch with Eusko Ikaskuntza to find out if its latest invitation is also extended to artists in the Diaspora, but due to transport and moving issues, works of art like sculptures, paintings etc. for the contest will primarily be limited to artists in the Basque Country, France or Spain.  Nevertheless, more flexible participation is available in other categories such as multimedia or photography, so all interested artists should get in touch with the organization.

The contest invites participants to create works with the Basque Diaspora theme in the following categories: visual arts (painting, drawing, collage, engraving, etc.), sculpture, installations, photography and multimedia.

Works need to be submitted by September 15.  Participants should include a descriptive document (2 pages maximum) including the creative point of view and image guide of what the final work will be (drawings, photos or digital documents), along with the artist’s resume.  Each artist is allowed to submit one work.

The jury will select 25 of these works by January 1, 2016.

The following prizes will also be awarded:

  • First place: 1000 Euros
  • Second place: 800 Euros
  • Third place: 500 Euros
