In the Basque from Roncal Valley, the motto “Urrinean biltruk” (United in Distance), the Euskal Artzainak Ameriketan Association invites everyone to participate in its annual “amerikanoen” sheepherder festival that will take place on September 3rd in Isaba. A full program is planned that includes a visit to the Ethnographic Museum in Isaba and the traditional meal, among other activities.  The chosen motto wants to “reflect the capacity of our herders to live their lives and work in such faraway lands and that are so different from our own.”

In addition, this year the Association will be celebrating its 10th anniversary “It began in Lesaka in 2005, with a small reunion of local herders, that created what was the first meeting on a larger scale, in the same town in 2006,” according association sources.  “Euskal Artzainak Ameriketan would like to especially thank all of the members, entities, and business who have collaborated with their contributions to the association, and place value on the life of the herders who immigrated to the Americas, and who contributed to disclose and extoll our image in those lands, in some very harsh working conditions that required them to be noble.  As a token of our thanks, we have created a calendar that will be presented to those members, and entities, that includes some of the most emblematic photos of our festivals over the years, as well as some of the various activities that we have carried out.”
