The Euskal Etxea in Mendoza will begin a new film series at the local Microcine: this Saturday they will be showing The Wolf followed one week later by We are all Guests, both are free and open to the public.  The club, that is getting ready to hold its General Assembly on October 30, takes a look back through its past activities in EuskalKultura.com.

Mendoza, Argentina.   In the year of its 60th anniversary, the Mendoza Basque club is firm in its commitment to disseminate the culture of Euskal Herria.  Besides daily activities held at its facilities, Denak Bat also have carried out events outside of the clubhouse, to give its activities more visibility as well as more available to the local community.

The Mendoza Basque club informed us that the exhibit “In the Footsteps of Euskera: the Basque Language and its Presence in Argentina” was displayed in the lobby of the Municipal Microcine from October 10-17, organized by the club with the support of the city’s Culture Office.  It was a complete success, “the exhibit was visited by the large number of people who circulate there daily and who carry out activities at these facilities. We know this fundamentally, because a large number of people came to us interested in our language and how to learn it,” club sources said.

Also, on October 13-14, the Club received a visit from the Delegate of Argentina and Mercosur, Sara Pagola.  During her stay in the city, Pagola, accompanied by the club’s president, Alicia Aguirre, met with provincial authorities include the vice-governor, Laura Montero; president of the Chamber of Mendoza, Nestor Pares; and the sub-secretary of Industry and Commerce, Guillermo Cruz; and Diego Gareca, secretary of Culture.

When the meetings concluded, Pagola was welcomed to the Denak Bat Basque Club where she shared dinner with Basque students, muslaris and other members.

October Activities

Continuing this month’s activities, the club will begin its 2016 Basque Film Series this Saturday at 9pm with The Wolf, a film by Miguel Courtois.  The second and final event for the series will take place a week later, next Saturday, October 29, with We are all Guests.  Both films will be shown at the Municipal Microcine, in the David Eisenchlas room, (9 de Julio Street 500), free and open to the public.

Finally, the General Assembly will be held on Sunday, October 30.  After the meeting everyone present is invited to have lunch.
