Denak Bat Basque Club in Mar del Plata invites creators and artists to design its 2018 Semana Vasca Logo

The city of Mar del Plata will be the site October 29-November 4 of 2018 Semana Nacional Vasca, and its hosting club, Denak Bat, has also announced a contest to design the event’s logo.  The deadline to submit artwork is May 31st for a cash prize.  The delegation from Mar del Plata was received last March in Vitoria-Gasteiz at the Lehendakaritza and presented Gorka Alvarez Aranburu, director of the Basque Community Abroad, an invitation for Lehendakari Urkullu to attend the event.

Mar del Plata, Argentina.   On March 16th, the president of the Denak Bat Basque Club in Mar del Plata, Asier Iriberri, visited Vitoria-Gasteiz and the Lehendakaritza where he presented the Director of the Basque Community Abroad, Gorka Alvarez Aranburu, an invitation for Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu to attend SNV 2018.  The Argentine delegation had a meeting with Alvarez Aranburu and his team.

Semana Vasca 2018 logo contest

The goal of the contest is to encourage ideas in order to select a logo, image and typography, for joint as well as individual use that identifies SNV 2018 along with the 75th anniversary of Mar del Plata’s Basque club.

The logo should contain a design that expresses the values of the preservation of Basque identity, and culture based on basic elements: a figurative element, that should also allude to the club’s 75th anniversary as well as a typographic one, including “Semana Nacional Vasca 2018 – Mar del Plata.”

Contest rules (complete rules available here)

-Participants: participation in the contest is free and open to the public to individuals above the age of 18 who reside in Argentina.  Participants can present individually or in groups.  Members of the jury or their family members are not eligible to participate.  Each person may submit up to three designs, identifying each with a nickname.

-Design: should be original and unpublished and the property of its designers.  Reproductions will not be accepted, or works that include legends or figures that could be interpreted as publicity.  Photos should not be included in the design.  The design should be multi-functional, that means that it can be used in various applications in a diversity of concrete and digital media.

Each submission will be presented print ready, sized 9 x 6 cm on a rigid support with up to 4 colors used.  In the same panel format, A4 will appear the logo version in color and another version in black and white.  It will include a report that will include that explains the genesis and significance of the proposed images, as well as printed text in relation to sizes and situations among other elements.  The image should be presented digitally on a CD with an attachment in the following formats: Photoshop, Adobe illustrator or CorelDraw, with images in psd or tiff at 300 dpi.  The color logotype, black and white and technical data, specifically the various typographs use, and the RGB of the colors used. 

-Deadline: proposals should be received by May 31, 2018. They should be received at the Denak Bat Offices (Moreno, 3440, Mar del Plata).  Hours are M-F 10am-12:00pm and 5pm-8pm, and Saturdays 10am-noon.

-Prize: a jury elected by the Basque club will choose the winner and will award he/she with $5000.  The name of the winner will be announced in the second half of June on social media.
