The activities at Euskal Astea (Basque Week) began on Monday with the inauguration of art exhibits, photos and Euskera.  During the week there was Basque film with Carlos Gabilondo, talks and yesterday club cooks from the Euzkal Etxea prepared lunch for 300 students as part of the 15th anniversary festivities of the their Etxe Nasaia Program.  See the photos of what has taken place to date along with the weekend’s program.  Join in the fun in San Nicolas!

San Nicolas, Argentina.   San Nicolas, and above all members of the Euzkal Etxea are currently living an unparalleled experience.  Euskal Astea or Semana Vasca, the annual festival that is a reference for the entire Basque diaspora, is being hosted for the first time in this city located on the shores of the Parana, just 250 kilometers northwest from Buenos Aires.

The big event began on Monday with the arrival of the first guests, some from the Basque Country traveling expressly for the occasion.  But the meat of the program begins today with Mintzodromo, area to enjoy and practice Basque, at 3pm and the official inauguration at the Mitre Plaza, with authorities, musicians and club representatives participating.

WEEKEND PROGRAM

Friday, November 10
-8:00, Delegation Reception at the Euskal Etxea, including accompaniment to lodging and breakfast
-10:00, Local Mayor, Manuel Passaglia will welcome authorities form the Basque Government at the National Assembly (Jean Lassalle, deputy to Cores de Paris in the Pyrenees Atlantiques) and FEVA
-11:00, Disbursement of books to libraries, at the HCD
-12:00, Lunch
-15:00- 18:00, Mintzodromo, at the Law Faculty
-15:00-18:00, Meeting “Telling the Story,” aimed at young people who want to know more about the history of the Basque Country, at the Euskal Etxea
-19:00, Official Inauguration of Semana Nacional Vasca 2017. Raising of the flags, anthems, and the presence of authorities at the Mitre Plaza
-19:30, Choir meeting at the Municipal Theater Rafael de Aguiar.  Participation of groups from Buenos Aires (Euskaltzaleak), Villa María, Viedma-Patagones, Cañuelas and San Nicolás and each will pay tribute to the 80th anniversary of the creation of Eresoinka.  The documentary done by the Lehendakari Agirre Center about Basque choirs will also be shown.  This will be followed by a recital by Michel Etcheverry, Mikel Urdangarin and Xabaltx. Place: Municipal Theater

Saturday, November 11

, Mass at the local cathedral. Special intention for eternal rest for the fourteen priests who were executed by Franco
