The main show at Euskal Astea, Semana Nacional took place on Saturday night at the Municipal Theater in San Nicolas.  As something new, that was very well-received, was the new presentation of the dances that was interlaced, so that each group immediately followed the other.  Saturday activities began in the morning with the usual meetings, visit from Basque Government Authorities, film, Tamborrada and the traditional Kalejira to the theater.

San Nicolas, Argentina.   It represented a major challenge, but the locals are accustomed and met it head-on.  Failure to do so was not an option.  So with these words, and with the experience of a part of Semana Vasca already behind them, the club’s president, Damian Cebey, welcomed the delegations at the FEVA meeting Saturday morning.  Basque Government authorities were also there, and after the meeting, they greeted those present and exchanged view with the clubs.

On Saturday morning the usual meetings took place including Basque libraries and dance instructors.  At the same time, Basque Parliamentarian, Jasone Agirre, Secretary of EH Bildu for the Diaspora, met with references of Basque clubs and members of the Diaspora at a talk that was focused on the exchange of ideas about the present and the future of the Basque Diaspora.

In the afternoon, the spokesperson for Gure Esku Dago, Angel Oiarbide, presented the documentary Elkarrekin-Together followed by the Tamborrada that lead into the show.  At the theater, some 25 dance groups performed.  The evening was divided into two parts, the first include traditional dances and the second included modern choreographies. The first part became a particularly dynamic totality, where dances followed one another without interruption, each group giving passage to the next.  On a screen on stage that name of the dance, where it came from, including its place on a map of Euskal Herria, along with the dance group that performed it.

Today’s article is a chronicle of Saturday’s events including the first part of the dance performances.
