Chino, USA. Even though dinner was planned to begin at 7:00 p.m., early birds gathered an hour before to enjoy cocktails and 'pintxos' at the Club. In the end, some 120 members showed up and were served barbecue steak, chicken, vegetables, and salad. A “very good menu, as always” cooked by Steven Gamboa with the aid of a group of volunteers.

Organizers honored those immigrants that are still amongst us. At the time of the desert, a short documentary by Marianna Etcheverria (aided by some members of the Club) was shown. The video consisted of photos from the early days, images of current times, and family pictures of the honorees. 

The documentary also showed short interviews with some of the immigrants, the part that many people enjoyed the most “because they told stories about their journeys,” Evelyne Lanathoua-Good, communicator of the club explained. This video will be available, soon, in the Basque Club’s website.

The first homage-dinner of this kind was held by the Chino Basque Club last year and it honored immigrants that arrived between the years 1950 and 1955. For next year, the Club is thinking of organizing a similar celebration to honor those that came to America in the first half of the 1960’s.

The Chino Basque Club will be hosting a Basque Picnic on August 31 and that the Club also host fundraisers (luncheons) once each month from September through June every year.
