Unai Elorriaga will return to Rome in early April, where he will give a talk on his work, sponsored by the publisher Gran Via and the Associazione Culturale Euskara Basque club. Elorriaga has published two of his works in Italy with Gran via, specifically SP-rako tranbia (A Tram to SP) and Vredaman (whose Italian translation was entitled, "Le pianti, per esempio, no bevono caffellatte.”) The Basque association of Rome has changed its program of activities this month so that the author’s visit coincides with the club’s “Basque aperitif” event where he will present an unedited text written expressly for the occasion.

Rome, Italy.  On April 4, Basque writer Unai Elorriaga (Bilbao, 1973) will be in Rome to give a talk on his work.  The event will take place at the bookstore Giuffá, in the area of San Lorenzo, hosted by the Associazione Culturale Euskara Basque club and the Department of Languages and Culture of the University Popular UPTER in Rome.  The writer, originally from Bilbao, has a close relationship with the Basque community in Rome, which he has visited previously to present Italian translations of his novels.  He has published two of his works with Gran Via, SP-rako tranbia (A Tram to SP) and Vredaman (whose Italian translation was entitled, "Le pianti, per esempio, no bevono caffellatte.”)

Rome’s Basque club has adjusted its schedule of events in order to accommodate Elorriaga’s visit and so has postponed it “Basque aperitif” for a week that takes place at the Giuffá bookstore.  The evening will begin with a food tasting, and then the literature hour will take place.  Elorriaga will read passages taken from his works translated into Italian as well as presenting an unedited text written expressly for the occasion.

Unai Elorriaga was born in Bilbao in 1973.  He has a degree in philology in addition to working in education as a translator, as well as collaborating with various media.  He is considered one of the most deserving writers of Basque literature today and is the youngest author to receive Spain’s Fiction Award.

Italian publisher Gran Via has published two of his works: SP-rako tranbia (A Tram to SP) and Vredaman (whose Italian translation was entitled, "Le pianti, per esempio, no bevono caffellatte.”)
