Madrid will be the site this weekend of the Annual Meeting of Basque language teachers at European Basque clubs.  The event will be attended by some 20 teachers.  The goal of the meeting is to share experiences, answer questions, and get resources, ideas and tools to improve classes.

Madrid, Spain.   The European Basque clubs have a date in Madrid this Friday and Saturday, the Annual Irakasle Meeting organized by HABE.  Participating in the event will be teachers from Basque clubs in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Mallorca, Valladolid, Bordeaux, Paris, Rome, London, Berlin and Brussels.

As part of its Euskara Munduan Program, HABE supports Basque classes at Basque clubs all over the world, and this annual meeting is part of the process of monitoring and continual improvement of these classes.  In this way, for another year, some 20 Basque teachers will attend the meeting hosted by the Madrid Euskal Etxea.  Last year the meeting took place in Valencia, and the year before that in Berlin.

Diverse Faculty

In the specific case of European Basque clubs, one of the characteristics is the fact that the faculty is very diverse, as Kinku Zinkunegi, coordinator of Euskara Munduan told EuskalKultura.com.  In many clubs, the teachers change every year, especially in places where the Basque community is comprised largely of youth who live in a city only for a time for work or study, and then return home.

The meeting takes place every year at the beginning of the course, at the request of the teachers themselves, in hope of sharing experiences, answer questions, and improve methodologies, in the teaching process.  The more experienced teachers share their ideas and activities, inspiring those at other clubs to carry out similar projects, for example.
