The Stella Restaurant at the Cedar House Sport Hotel in Truckee, California, is not a typical restaurant.  Instead of providing nightly dinners like other restaurants do, they specialize in custom dining options for groups and families, including a “Pop up Dinner Series” several times a month.  This Friday, February 25th, diners will have a rare opportunity to experience Basque food in this small mountainous community.

Truckee, California.  The Cedar House Sport Hotel in Truckee, California is not a run-of-the-mill hotel.  It aims to “inspire authentic and positive connections to the natural world and to one another,” by inviting its guests to experience this world that is “rooted in fresh mountain air, pure water and irresistible mountain trails.” It makes sense then, that the hotel’s restaurant would also be unique.  The Stella Restaurant aims to provide exceptional dining for hotel guests and those celebrating special events.  Believing that some of the best dining experiences don’t always take place in traditional restaurants, the Stella also boasts a “Pop Up Dinner Series.”  The goal of the series, formatted like a dinner party, is to provide an opportunity to explore creative cooking.  At a Pop Up Dinner, guests are encouraged to visit the kitchen, and join in conversations that are often educational.  Seating is family-style and each course is served at the same time, accompanied by commentary from the kitchen team.

This Friday’s “Pop Up Dinner” will feature Basque cuisine with a nod to Basque Sheepherders who played an important role in the history of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Diners are invited to “feast on Basque cuisine, enjoying the flavors of Northern Spain and Truckee’s very own Basque historic past.” The dinner will take place on Friday, February 25th from 6pm-9pm and cost of the meal is $97.
