Summary 2016

The two pillars of the Euskal Etxea are currently dance and Euskera.  Both activities were held during the year and will continue in the next.  “During 2014-2015 we had a Basque teacher but this year, he couldn’t continue.  Nevertheless the group continues to meet once a week to progress through the material that they have,” Monica Arrazubieta told EuskalKultura.com.

“In addition, Tatiana Iparraguirre, who had been a club dance, is now in charge of our dance group and is also on the board, participated in the Gaztemundu program.  At the anniversary dinner we were delighted by some of the pintxos she prepared, a result of what she learned during her stay in Euskal Herria,” the president said.

In regards to plans for next year, Arrazubieta said that they will hold elections in March or April, and that the new board will surely follow in the path of the current board.  “We will continue to participate in various events in the community, for example, our dantzaris were part of a show at the local high school, and also at the Livestock Fair, Commerce and Industry, where we also had a booth. There we were visited mainly by Basque descendants to ask questions, including the origin of their last names,” the president said emphasizing their participation in these activities over the last few years.

Among the board of director’s priorities, Arrazubieta, also anticipates their search for a locale for a Euskal Etxea,” a goal that we haven’t been able to meet yet, but for which we continue to strive,” she said.
