Bakersfield California’s Basque festival celebrates its 40th edition this weekend: the program

The Basque festival that takes place every year in this southern California city, a couple of hours by car from Los Angeles, will celebrate its 40th anniversary. The hosting club, the Kern County Basque Club (Bakersfield is the capital of Kern County) will celebrate it as it should: one of the biggest and best Basque festivals in California. It will include Basque music, traditional dance, public dances, Mus games, barbecues, singing, mass, pilota matches and exceptional Basque-American atmosphere. Here is Saturday and Sunday’s program of events.

-8:00 a.m. - Mus Tournament: $35 per player (Lunch included); 1st Place Team - $500; 2nd Place Team - $250
-12:30 p.m. - Bacalao & Lomo- $20
-5:00 p.m. - Pilota/Handball game: Players from Euskadi

-10:00 a.m. - Mass celebrated by Monsignor Craig Harrison along with the KCBC Klika & Choir
-12:00-2:00 p.m.- Lunch: BBQ Lamb; Adults - $20; KCBC Honorary Members - $12; Children 12 & under - $12
-2:30 p.m. - KCBC Dance groups & Klika perform
-4:30 p.m. - Lukainka Sandwiches and Ham/Cheese Sandwiches -$7
-5:00 p.m. - Pilota/Handball Game: Players from Euskadi
-7:30 p.m. - Dance: Music by the Jean Flesher Band
