The idea that was tossed around family members, has now become a reality.  The Atlanta Basque Club is now taking steps to register itself as a non-profit organization so it can become a part of NABO and be officially recognized by the Basque Government.  This in an effort to gather the suspected 200 or so Basque families in the area. 

Atlanta, Georgia.  The idea to create a Basque club in Atlanta came up in the Aguirre household last year, and since, they have worked hard to create the Atlanta Basque Club.  The club’s goal is “to preserve, promote and celebrate Basque culture,” and they welcome Basques and non-Basques alike to learn more about their culture. 

The club’s four-member board is comprised of the following: Camilo Aguirre, President, Orlando Aguirre, Vice-President and Nancy Aguirre Treasurer with Rodrigo Aguirre serving as trustee.  They have begun the process of becoming a non-profit organization, and have already spoken to Basque Government officials, and NABO President, Valerie Arrechea regarding what NABO membership entails.  They are planning on attending this summer’s NABO convention in Buffalo, WY as well in hopes of making more contacts. 

The club has already created a website and is on Facebook. They have also recently launched a Go Fund Me project, to help them finance the process to become a non-profit organization.  If you are interested in becoming a member of the club, or looking for more information about them, you can email them, or visit their website.
