Bilbao-Bizkaia. On Thursday, July 4th, illustrator and graphic humorist from Argentina, Iñaki Echeverria will present two of his most recent works at the Joker Bookstore in Bilbao. ESMA by Echeverria, along with journalist, Juan Carra, is a graphic novel about crimes against humanity committed precisely in the ESMA, a clandestine detention center and one of the symbols of State Terrorism suffered in Argentina between 1976 and 1983. In What the Night Knows, Echeverria illustrates six stories by Carlos Salem, all situated in night-0time environments and with fictional characters, but also real ones like Carlos Gardel, Adolf Hitler and Argentina’s former dictator, Videla.
Iñaki Echeverria is originally from Balcarce, in the province of Buenos Aires but currently lives in the capital city where he collaborates with well-known graphic media like Pagina 12. He is also the author of graphic novels and the “Padre Abrumado” comic strip. As his name denotes, he was born to a Basque-Argentine family that has a close relationship with Euskal Herria. His father has been one of the founders and member of the Balcarceko Euskaldunak Basque Club and Iñaki himself participated in Gaztemundu, more specifically the first edition of the program.
Iñaki Echeverria will present and sign copies of ESMA and What the Night Knows tomorrow, July 4th at 6:30pm at the Joker Bookstore that specializes in comics located at Euskalduna 7, in Bilbao.
