As part of the May 25th celebrations, Eusko Kultur Etxea invites everyone to listen to a reference of Argentine folklore, and club friend, Silvia Iriondo.  The recital will allow the songwriter not only to explore her repertoire, but also to perform numbers from her latest work.  The event will be at 8pm at the Eusketxe with a requested admission/donation of $200.

Buenos Aires, Argentina.   To say farewell to the patriotic month Eusketxe has invited a special guest, Silvia Iriondo to perform some of her classics in anticipation of her new album “Tierra sin mal,” accompanied by musicians Cato Fandrich (piano), Mono Hurtado (contra base) and Fernando Bruno (percussion).

To give the event a local and patriotic touch, the hosts will provide empanadas and wine.  The event will take place tomorrow, Thursday, May 31st at 8pm in Lizarraenea, Mexico 1880, in Buenos Aires. Tickets need to be reserved by emailing: eusketxe@gmail.com. Admission is a requested donation of $200.

Silvia Iriondo

Proud of her Basque roots, Silvia Iriondo, maintains close contact with the community. We shouldn’t be surprised by this when you take into account that her parents met singing in the Lagun Onak choir in Buenos Aires.  “My parents and grandparents were Basque, all sang and played something, and the Basque traditions filled my house like singing, dancing a jota, fandango…” she has said more than once.

Even if her Basque heritage came to her at home, Silvia also has learned a lot on her own, allowing her to participate in singing and music festivals in Euskal Herria, as well as here with artists from there.  One of her final performances with Basque artists in Argentina was at the Auditorium at the National Library, along with musicians from Oreka Tx.  The recital was a sort of "return visit" after the Argentinian folklorist had been with them, a few months earlier, on Basque stages. Below is a video to remember that concert in December 2014.
