Living in Montreal (Canada), Antton Curutchet (Angelu, Basque Country, 1992) is member of Euskaldunak Quebec and has edited a 10 minutes video that shows footage from different Basque communities around the globe celebrating Korrika−the biannual Fun Run in support of the Basque language. More than twenty clubs from 15 countries sent pictures and videos to Curutchet to create the clip.

Montreal, Canada. Antton Curutchet not just overcame Canada’s cold March to run in support of Euskara with fellow members of Euskaldunak Quebec, he also created a 10-minute video-clip with footage received from 21 Basque clubs and communities around the globe that shows how Basque people celebrate their language. “This is the first time I celebrate Korrika abroad, so it’s been a pleasure doing this,” he said.

It took him over a month and a half to finish this task, mostly because it was not easy to contact so many Basque Clubs, but, in the end, it’s been a beautiful experience to see how Basques celebrate Korrika in different parts of the world.”

The clip he created is 10 minutes long, a good length to share on the Internet; still, that means he had 30 seconds for each club, and that saddened him a little bit: “It’s not much… But I think it looks good.”

In Quebec, in Basque

Curutchet moved to Quebec in August, last year. He is studying Physics and Chemistry but he is also enriching his musical talent, since he also plays accordion: “I came to know new cultures through music. I like to mix Basque and Quebecois music.”

In his own words, “there are quite a lot Basque speakers in Canada, so during the first couple of weeks I mostly spoke in Basque.” He says he is sure that he will go back home, “but I don’t know when.” “I know I want to discover new places but I still don’t know where I want to settle,” he finished.
