We are coming to the end of 2016 and along with that the end of the term of current President of the University of the Basque Country, Iñaki Goirizelaia, who after serving two terms, and eight years in the job, will now pass the baton to Nekane Balluerka, member of his team and the one elected last November to replace him.  Goirizelaia, Professor of Telematics Engineering, and 58 years of age, will travel in 2017 to the US, where he will teach post-doc courses at Boise State University beginning in March.

Donostia-San Sebastian.  Nekane Balluerka, from Ordizia, will become the new President of the largest public university in the Basque Country.  Passing the baton to her is Iñaki Goirizelaia, from Bilbao, who, after concluding his term as president, will now take a two-year sabbatical that will begin with a trip and stay in Boise, Idaho, where he will teach post-doc courses at BSU.

Goirizelaia himself talked about it in an interview with journalist, Idoia Alonso, at Deia about his plans in Boise, a city that he had visited several time during his time as head of the University of the Basque Country, adding that he is excited to teach “a subject that is new to me, that I have to prepare, but that interests me a lot: how media and the science and technology networks, along with the industrial system, have influenced education in the Basque Country.”
