Bay Area residents will have another Basque-inspired restaurant to go to since, today, Aatxe will open its doors at 5:30pm. It will be ran by Chef Ryan Pollnow. The Ne Timeas group – a well-known firm in the business and owner of Aatxe − declared that their chef fell in love in San Sebastian with Basque pintxos culture and he will offer in the new restaurant California cuisine influenced by the Basque tapas culture.

San Francisco, CA. Aatxe, Basque for young bull, will welcome its customers with a casual atmosphere and some long communal-style dining tables. It will have two separated areas — the dining room and the bar — that will be able to host up to 50 diners, and will be located in the popular Swedish American Hall (2174 Market Street).

Regarding the food, the place has mostly been tagged as Basque cuisine, even tought aficionados to euskal sukaldaritza will find a very noticeable presence of some Spanish ways, with concepts and dishes in the menu like montaditos, cazuelas, paella or patatas bravas. Nevertheless, the fact that Pollnow interned at the two-Michelin-star restaurant Mugaritz (ran by Chef Andoni Luis Aduriz, in Errenteria, Gipuzkoa) will be palatable when ordering other entries in the menu, that also includes house-cured txorizo or loin pintxos, or even a portion of blood sausage.

A great Gin and Tonic menu

But Aatxe will not only be a place where to take the edge off hunger, it will also be a nice venue to enjoy some drinks with friends. Especially if you are a Gin and Tonics lover, because they will be offering more than 50 different types of this favorite. Along with this spirit, there will also be vodka, vermouth, and other beverages.

Regular business hours will be Sunday through Thursday from 5:30pm to 11:00pm, and Friday and Saturday from 5:30pm to midnight.

You can follow them on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and their website.
