Ever traveled to the Basque Country and had trouble making a decision on where to eat? No longer will the decision be a complicated one. The app “The Basque Country: Cuisine and Culture” is here to help. With this interactive digital guidebook available for your iPhone you can access reviews of over 200 places to eat, sight see, and experience the wonders of the Basque Country.

Donostia-San Sebastián. The Basque Country is a center of culinary brilliance. It is filled with some of the top chefs in the world and various Michelin-starred restaurants, but is a place also known for their mouthwatering Pintxo selections found at just about any bar around town. With all the choices, how does one decide where to go? Thanks to Mark Ayling, our decision can be made a little easier with his app “The Basque Country: Cuisine and Culture”.

Ayling is a dedicated traveler and freelance journalist originally from California who found the Basque Country and fell in love with all the wonder it had to offer. With the help from Sutro Media, Ayling has assembled an App that embodies some of the essentials of Basque cuisine and culture.

Only three provinces

This app, that is available for the iPhone, iTouch, and iPad, contains information of over 200 attractions and sights, including museums, Michelin-starred Restaurants, pintxo bars, nightlife, and historical sights around the Basque Country. It does not, however, include any accommodation information. The first version of this app only covers three of the Basque provinces, and does not include Navarre or the three Basque provinces that are located in France.

This interactive guidebook will help you find the closest eatery to where you are, and will even offer directions via Google Maps. The app itself is focused to help you find exactly what you are looking for, whether it be food or adventure. It includes touristic and cultural sights and information of various villages that stretch along the coast from Bilbao to San Sebastian and sights to see in each. The app also provides some insight to Basque history and culture, to help you become a little more familiar with your surroundings.

Menu decoder

This digital guidebook lists restaurants that are made to fit any budget, from the ever affordable and always delectable Pinxtos, to the more expensive and highly renowned Michelin-Starred Restaurants in town. There is always something to please everyone. The app contains a guide to pintxos with photos and descriptions of each, a `menu decoder´ to assist you in pronouncing some of the more difficult Basque words, and over 1000 photos of dishes and decor of each restaurant to help your decision.

Ayling´s goal with this app was to not only inform travelers and readers of various dining options, but to include the beauty and wonder of the Basque Country by offering information on the unique culture and history of the area. So instead of carrying around a heavy tour book in your carry on luggage, just pick up this app on iTunes for $2.99 and you will have it with you wherever you go.
