For four years in a row, the MA Studio in Pekin, managed by Judas Arrieta originally of Hondarribia, has opened the call for applications for the art scholarships “Goazen Txinara!” (Let’s go to China). Thanks to these scholarships two Basque creators can stay in Beijing for two months in order to complete a project related to the Asian country. MA Studio takes care of the trip and renting a place to work. The project is also supported by the Etxepare Basque Institute. The deadline for applications is January 30th and the stay would take place between August 1 and September 30, 2012.

Bilbo, Bizkaia.  Last Friday the artist Judas Arrieta presented the 2012 edition of art scholarships “Goazen Txinara!” in Bilbao.  Arrieta has lived in China for a number of years and would like to share the great moment of change and creativity that the ancient Chinese culture is living through these scholarships.  The 2011 recipients accompanied Arrieta at the presentation, Alain Urrutia and Luis Candaudap.

The deadline for applications will close on January 30, 2012.  The initiative is having increasingly more impact in the world of Basque artists as last year there were 86 applications and proposals received.  Projects to be carried out in 2012 at the MA Studio in Beijing may be from any discipline.  The estimated project time for scholarship recipients is two months, from August 1 to September 30, 2012.  The MA Studio will be responsible for renting a workspace and travel costs for each recipient.

The stay will conclude with an exhibit at the studio to which artists, collectors and gallery owners will be invited.  In early 2013 a collective exhibit will take place with the works of both of the recipients in a prestigious exposition hall complete with catalogue.  The resident artists will have to sign a contract agreeing to undertake the proposed project during their two months stay in China along with ceding a work, or one piece of what was produced there.
