Monica Riley Choperena, formerly of Dunkirk, NY, died on January 21, 2019, in San Francisco, CA.

She was born in Dunkirk on January 11, 1958, to the late Joseph D. and Ann "Nancy" Riley. She attended Cardinal Mindszenty High School and the SUNY-Fredonia. She earned a degree of Bachelor of Arts in Health Services Administration from Saint Mary's College of California. She married Jack Reilly, also formerly of Dunkirk, on November 27, 2010, in Fredonia, NY. Monica spent her career in nursing home administration in New York and California, most recently at Apple Valley Care & Rehabilitation in Sebastopol, CA.

Monica enjoyed traveling, visiting many places in the USA and Europe. She especially loved spending time in Spain, particularly the Basque Country, and at her house in the small mountain town of Goizueta, Navarre, a place close to her heart, where she brought many friends and relatives to visit over the years. Monica also twice made the long trek through northwestern Spain along the ancient pilgrimage route known as el Camino de Santiago, hiking from Roncesvalles to the shrine city of Santiago de Compostela.

She is survived by her husband, Jack, her step-daughters, Janna Reilly of Petaluma, CA, and Maggie Reilly of Brooklyn, NY, as well as her brothers Denis Riley of Merritt Island, FL, Bruce Riley of Garberville, CA, Brian Riley of Fredonia, NY, Thomas Riley of Alameda, CA, Brendan Riley of San Diego, CA, and her sister, Mary Riley McPherson of Fredonia, NY. Other survivors include dozens of nieces and nephews and several sisters- and brothers-in-law.

A memorial celebration will be held in Petaluma, CA, at a date to be determined.
